The Mattaniah Christian Male Choir began practicing and giving concerts in 1990 before becoming officially organized in 1992. At its organization, the choir chose to adopt the name: "Mattaniah", referring to the great-grandson of the well known Jerusalem Temple musician Asaph (Nehemiah 12:35). Mattaniah, whose name means "gift of Jehovah", was a Levite whose responsibility it was to blow the horns in the temple service as appointed by David. The choir has currently more than 60 members and meets for its weekly practices in Dundas, Ontario.
